This article is about an EP I did some work on with a good friend of mine. It isn’t a review per se, as I can’t be impartial on this one, and would like to preserve my journalistic integrity and credibility, but it’s a lovely piece of work that Laura and I are really proud of, and you should totally check it out!
Waiting For Something EP is a collection of some of Laura’s most notable songs that are finally being committed to tape (well, CD) after over 4 years of tirelessly playing Manchester’s acoustic circuit.
Part-recorded at Unlimited Studios, part recorded by yours truly at SSR Manchester, Waiting For Something give’s Laura’s relatable songs that much-needed pop sparkle, and Farrow’s well-thought-out arrangement carefully considers the build of the songs, maintaining interest over the 4 songs.
The EP was initially released to the public this past Sunday at Jimmy’s in the Northern Quarter, with some excellent support slots from Abigail Chetham, Holly Jenkinson and Chris Kelly, all matching the melancholy of the underground venue. Laura’s set featured her first outing with a backing band, beefing up her well-known songs with denser instrumentation, to reflect the production and arrangement of her EP.
Waiting For Something will be released online in the next few weeks, but in the meantime you can buy a CD from Laura when you next see her live. Check out her Facebook page to see when she’s next near you.
